Thank You to Our Volunteers
Bethesda Health Care celebrates National Volunteer Week this week by recognising the extraordinary contribution of its volunteer team, whose compassion and generosity help support patients, families and staff across the organisation.
With more than 50 volunteers contributing their time and care, volunteers play a vital role in daily life at Bethesda. Their support ranges from welcoming and assisting patients on admission, to sewing handmade blankets for patient rooms, supporting the popular happy hour trolley, facilitating therapy dog visits, and providing companionship and comfort through conversation and simple acts of kindness.
This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, Your Year to Volunteer, highlighted the important role volunteers play in creating connection, purpose and support within the community.
In a message to volunteers, Bethesda Chief Executive Officer Dr Neale Fong thanked volunteers for the meaningful difference they make every day.
“Each day, you help make Bethesda more than a hospital,” Dr Fong said.
“Whether you are welcoming patients and families, assisting our teams, supporting our surgical services, providing comfort through the happy hour trolley, or offering moments of care and connection through therapies, conversation, or simple acts of kindness, you make a meaningful difference in ways that truly matter.”
Dr Fong said volunteers brought “compassion, dignity and humanity” to the care provided at Bethesda and described them as a valued and essential part of the organisation.
Bethesda marked the week with a special volunteer gathering to thank volunteers in person and celebrate their contribution to the hospital community.
