Bethesda Wins Seventh Consecutive WorkSafe Platinum Award

Bethesda Health Care (Bethesda) in Claremont has retained its WorkSafe Platinum Status for a further two years – marking the seventh consecutive time (a total of 14 years), the organisation has received this prestigious recognition.

Bethesda remains the only organisation in Western Australia, across all industries, to achieve this accolade, and officially received the award from WorkSafe Commissioner Sally North at an event on 14 May 2026.

To secure a seventh Platinum Certificate from WorkSafe WA, Bethesda underwent a rigorous assessment process. This included a series of staff interviews, achieving a rating of 90 per cent or more across all elements of the WorkSafe Plan – Management Commitment, Planning, Consultation, Hazard Management, and Training and Supervision – and demonstrating an annual reduction in staff lost time injuries.

Chief Executive Officer Dr Neale Fong said maintaining the highest standards of health and safety in a hospital environment is both challenging and essential.

“Maintaining top-quality health and safety in the hospital environment is incredibly challenging but vitally important, benefiting both our patients and our staff,” Dr Fong said.

“For Bethesda to receive this accolade once again – and to retain it over 14 years – is unprecedented and a testament to our staff, who strive for excellence in everything they do.”

WorkSafe Plan Certificates of Achievement are awarded at Silver, Gold and Platinum levels, with Platinum recognising the highest standard of workplace health and safety. No other organisation in Western Australia – including those in mining and construction – has achieved Platinum status.

Bethesda further demonstrated its commitment to staff wellbeing in 2025, becoming the first hospital in WA to offer access to the premium wellbeing platform Sonder. The award-winning, medically accredited app provides 24/7 support for medical, mental health and personal safety.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with Sonder to provide this level of support for our staff, volunteers and their immediate families,” Dr Fong said.

“We believe healthcare workers should have access to this kind of premium wellbeing support. It’s crucial to support and care for those who care for others in our community.”
