Media release: Mount Private Hospital to transition to Bethesda Health Care
We are pleased to confirm an agreement has been reached for Mount Private Hospital in Perth to be operated by Bethesda Health Care.
The deal has been facilitated by the Western Australian government, whose support secures a positive future for the hospital, staff and patients.
Mount Private is a leading private provider of cardiology and cardiac surgery, as well as orthopaedics, neurosurgery, vascular surgery and general surgery, supported by the State’s largest private critical care unit.
Under the terms of the deal, Mount Private will continue its current operations, services will not be affected, and hospital jobs and entitlements will be protected. Bethesda will also perform public wait list services under contract as part of the arrangement.
It is planned hospital operations will transfer to Bethesda by the end of August 2026, subject to a prior period of due diligence.
Bethesda Health Care is a not-for-profit provider that has served the Western Australian community for over 80 years, delivering a range of private hospital specialist health services, including surgical services, sports medicine and palliative care at its Claremont hospital.
Healthscope CEO Nicole Waldron said the transition was a positive step for Mount Private Hospital’s people, doctors and patients.
“We are very proud of Mount Private and the outstanding patient care the team provide day in and day out,” Ms Waldron said.
“However, we felt that moving the hospital under local stewardship was the best course of action for the hospital, its staff, and the community it serves.
“We will work closely with Bethesda Health Care in coming months to ensure a smooth transfer of our people, patients and clinical services at Mount.”
Bethesda Health Care CEO Dr Neale Fong said Bethesda is pleased to see The Mount’s services continue under Bethesda’s management and combine their long histories of providing high quality health care in WA.
“Bethesda looks forward to working with the specialist doctors to see their important work continue. We have a high reputation for teamwork and excellent patient outcomes and combining our services will be an exciting time ahead.”
