Our Partnering with Consumers Committee (PWCC) drives innovation and change to improve and enrich the consumer experience at Bethesda. Our members are from diverse backgrounds and are active in opening up communication between the Hospital, carers, patients, families and the executive team. Representatives sit on many Hospital committees and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation. Members review suggestions and feedback and implement change to our service and processes to improve the patient experience. The Committee also review organisational documents and publications, contribute to the training of the clinical workforce, review and participate in building design and infrastructure reviews and much more! One example of a Committee driven improvement to the patient experience is the introduction of the Surgical Support role. The Committee identified consistent feedback from patients about the wait time between being admitted and going to theatre. This is common in hospitals, however our Committee saw an opportunity to create a volunteer role that focussed and prioritised communicating with patients waiting for surgery. Feedback around the role has been extremely positive since the role was introduced. Bethesda Health Care are proud winners of the Australian Private Hospitals Association 2020 Awards for Excellence in the Consumer Partnership and Engagement category for its Partnering with Consumers Committee.
